His Current Gig: Little Walter in the music biopic Cadillac Records. Known for his revolutionary harmonica technique, Walter recorded among fellow music greats like Etta James (Beyonce) and Muddy Waters (Jeffrey Wright) at Leonard Chess’ (Adrien Brody) legendary Chicago-based studio Chess Records.
You Know This Face Because … of his roles in Accepted, Stomp the Yard and This Christmas. This fall Short starred in the horror remake Quarantine as a firefighter trapped in an apartment building sealed off by government health officials.
Why So Fresh? He’s on a roll with three more films in 2009. First off there’s Whiteout, an icy mystery set in Antarctica opposite Kate Beckinsale and Gabriel Macht; then Armored, an action flick about an armored truck guard coerced into stealing a rig full of dough; and lastly The Trunk, a Shakespearean tragedy set in modern times.
In His Own Words … “I’m musically inclined to some degree, so it was more about figuring out how to blow and suck and get the right sound out,” he admitted to Metro UK. “We pre-recorded [the music] for sound purposes, but it was all done by me…It’s better that way because I wanted it to be as authentic as possible. There are a lot of people out there pretending to do these things, which people are going to think we did anyway. It was a challenge.”
