FRESH FACE: ‘Wolverine’ Star Taylor Kitsch

Fresh Face: Taylor Kitsch

His Current Gig: Kitsch plays the energy-manipulating mutant Gambit in a little movie called X-Men Origins: Wolverine. You’ve heard of it, right?

You Know This Face Because … After bit parts in Kyle XY and John Tucker Must Die, the 28-year-old Kitsch fought the forces of evil in The Covenant and fended off serpents in Snakes on a Plane. To date, Kitsch is arguably best known for his sullen fullback Tim Riggins on acclaimed TV show Friday Night Lights.

Why So Fresh? Kitsch is a superhero of humble proportions. On Wolverine: “The biggest thing for me is doing this justice … it’s not called Gambit: Origins. I want to come into Wolverine and contribute to Jackman’s movie the best I can, and I feel I’ve done everything I could possible to bring this guy to life.”

What’s Next: Next year, Kitsch will appear alongside Ryan Phillippe in The Bang Bang Club. The film is an adaptation of a novel recounting the experiences of four combat photographers capturing the final day of apartheid in South Africa.

In His Own Words: This health enthusiast talks the talk, saying, “Video games and computers have become babysitters for kids. Parents have to lead by example. I have two little sisters and I help my mom raise them. You just try to give them knowledge piece by piece and tell them, ‘[By eating well and being active,] you’re going to feel a lot better about yourself, you’re going to be able to do better at school, you’re going to have more energy in sports.’ I think it’s about self-empowerment, as well — giving kids choices. It starts with coaches, teachers, and especially parents, by living healthy themselves.”

Did You Know? The mega-fit actor is a certified personal trainer and nutritionist and has participated in events like the Malibu Triathlon and played junior league ice hockey in Canada before a knee injury ended his career on the ice. But it did lead to a promising one onscreen …
