During that time-honored tradition known as Spring Break, college kids around the country descend en masse on Cancun, Mexico, to party their butts off.
So the producers of MTV’s The Real World decided to catch the mayhem on film and “find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real” (more to the point–to get real drunk and real naked) with The Real Cancun, an R-rated version of their hit TV series that gathers 16 college-aged kids for eight glorious days in the Mexican sun and surf.
Hollywood.com talked with one of those lucky (or was he?) participants, model Casey Weeks, who hails from Miami, Fla. As the oldest in the group–25, and one of the only ones not in college–Casey proved so irresistible to the producers during his interviews they just had to include him.
Casey gave us the skinny on his whole “real” experience, from the wildest thing he did to who he hooked up with to what happened when he drank lots–and lots–of tequila.
How did you get picked to do The Real Cancun?
I was living in South Beach and a friend of mine told me about an open casting call for some movie, I didn’t really know what it was. You were supposed to go with friends, but I went by myself. And I guess they liked me. They really, really liked me.
Well, that’s true. I read most of the people picked were in college, except for a few who the producers deemed too good to pass up. What made you so irresistible?
I don’t know! I don’t know what it was. I asked the producers after we got done filming and they said I was one of the first guys they picked. I was like, wow, thought that was pretty cool. But I’m not sure what they saw.
Heard you were the life of the party.
I just wanted everyone to have a good time, to have fun. But it’s kind of scary because I don’t really remember much. Everything is sort of a blur to me, so I’m kind of looking forward to seeing the movie. I don’t drink much and when I do, I sort of black out ’cause I, like, have a chemical imbalance. It’s not good. So when I do drink, I don’t remember what happens.
That could be one of the reasons why they picked you. “Hey, let’s get this guy because he won’t know what he’s doing!”
I know! Whenever I drink, I have to take a camera with me to take pictures so I can remember what happened. I mean, all of us can’t really say, “What happened in Cancun, stays in Cancun.” Everyone is going to see what we did.
Does that make you a little nervous?
Well…not really ’cause I think I was pretty good. I’m just kinda anxious to see what I did when I was really wasted.
What can you remember?
Drank a lot of tequila. I mean everything happened so fast. We’d wake up and start drinking and then by the evening, everyone just passed out. I think I slept in just about every part of the resort. I remember one time I passed out on the beach and when I woke up, there was a helicopter above me, filming it. It was crazy down there. Cancun was unbelievable. It was my second time going there–my second and last time. Don’t think I’m going to go back.
Is that because they won’t let you come back?
[Laughing] Yeah, probably. No, actually it’s more like I’ll never get to experience it they way I got to doing this movie. The treatment we got when we were there was amazing. We had VIP treatment everywhere we went. We felt like celebrities down there. That’s how awesome it was for us.
So, not to give anything away, did you hook up with anyone?
Well, like the only thing I did wrong the first night I was there, I sort of hooked up with Trishelle from The Real World: Las Vegas. I was at the club and I was going up the stairs as she was coming down. I didn’t even really recognize her at first and we just started hanging out. The producers came up to me the next day and told me I couldn’t hang out with her because she was contracted for other stuff. She was in Cancun doing promotional stuff for The Real World. We’re friends now. I just talked to her the other day ’cause she got Punk’d on MTV.

How about The Real Cancun girls? Which one did you think was the hottest?
You know, all eight of them were unbelievable sexy. Every one of them had something sexy about them. I mean, everywhere we went, we just had the best looking group.
What’s the wildest thing you did while you were there?
I got talked into doing the hot-body contest which is so not my style. I’m just a laid-back surfer type guy. We all sort of agreed to do it. I was, like, in my shorts and stuff but then they told us we had to put on these skimpy speedo/thongs things. We were, like, oh man, no way. It just got crazy after that.
It says in your bio on The Real Cancun Web site the wildest thing you’ve ever done was bungee jump in the nude.
Yeah, that was the first time I went to Cancun. I had a girlfriend at the time and she found out. We broke up after that.
You do a jump in the movie as well. Bungee jumping is something you like to do, obviously.
No, it scares the crap out of me. But it’s just like whenever I drink, I’m like, all right, I’ll do it. I don’t care.
Has making a film made you want to be an actor at all?
Actually, I’m moving to L.A. the beginning of May. I figure a door has been opened so I might as well take it. I’m hoping this could elevate a career for me.
Hear that? Watch out, Casey’s coming up to bat.
The Real Cancun opens in theaters April 25.
