Okay, so we didn’t get invited to Jennifer Lopez and Cris Judd’s weekend wedding either, but we are privy to a couple of pertinent style details.
Although best known for that eye-popping green Gianni Versace dress she (kind of) wore to the 2000 Grammys, J. Lo usually reserves the Versace for funkier and edgier appearances and typically turns to the more elegant designs of Valentino for classier events (although she still caused a stir in her muy sheer Valentino frock from this year’s Oscars). The Rome-based fashion house has been dressing Hollywood divas from Elizabeth Taylor and Sophia Loren to Sharon Stone and Ashley Judd for four decades.
So it’s no surprise that the pop diva turned to the Italian designer for her nuptials–indeed, the blushing bride clad the entire wedding party in Valentino’s haute couture. The Angel Eyes star was an angelic vision an off-white custom-made gown in Chantilly lace over silk with a deep plunging v-neck and low-cut back (the only concessions made to her usual in-your-face sex appeal). A tight-fitted bodice dropped to a twice-layered skirt, all shaped to cascade down to an elegant train. Two large, fresh, cream-colored roses framed her French chignon, topped by a silk tulle and lace veil.
Despite that slightly racy neckline, Lopez (aided and abetted by stylist-to-the-stars Andrea Liberman, who has long crafted the actress’ signature style) couldn’t resist adding at least a touch more of her trademark racy style to the proceedings, but this time J.Lo let her seven bridesmaids have the fun. Their matching dresses were soft beige with diaphanous peek-a-boo bodices (similar to Lopez’s head-turning Oscar dress) that may have left some of the more modest girls wishing for an extra flower or two in their bouquets.
And as is her custom for A-list occasions, Lopez turned to highly-touted New York hair stylist Oribe, who has crafted elegant ‘dos for a roster of stars including Gwyneth Paltrow, Faith Hill, Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson.
The PR wrangler at Oribe’s Big Apple salon told me the tress master, aided by a team of two stylists, did double duty that day, sweeping Jennifer’s hair back for the ceremony, then brought it back down to her shoulders for a more sexy look for the reception, the better for her to dance in–and we’re talking moving J. Lo-style. After all, the bride was a former In Living Color Fly Girl and the groom was a dancer who met his future wife on her video shoot for “Love Don’t Cost a Thing.”
And in Hollywood you’re not just marrying a movie star, you’re marrying her entourage as well. After the ceremony, the happy couple jetted off on their honeymoon to Italy–with personal stylist and hairdresser in tow. It seems that while on her romantic getaway Jennifer also wanted to put in some glam face time at the latest Spring/Summer runway shows in Milan, like the one held by her friend, designer Donatella Versace.
After all, if Donatella couldn’t do the star’s wedding gown, at least she got to outfit J. Lo for her honeymoon (although perhaps new hubby Cris was hoping clothes wouldn’t be a priority).
