“Going green” took on a whole new meaning this weekend at Nickelodeon’s 21st Annual Kids Choice Awards as A-listers like Harrison Ford and Heidi Klum took part in the glorious green slime soakings the show is known for.

Host Jack Black promised the “slimiest, starriest, choice-iest” year yet and he delivered with 25 tons of goo, a celebrity slime stunt arena outside, and a record breaking 88 million “choice” votes tallied for the coveted awards.

It wasn’t just the celebrity volunteers who received the star slime treatment; as usual there were a few surprises, too. Presenter Hayden Panetierre was shocked to open the winner’s envelope only to find a green runny mess, while “Umbrella” singer Rihanna shielded herself from the green goo using a real umbrella while her co-presenter Brendan Fraser took the brunt of the sliming. In true Indiana Jones style, Harrison Ford swaggered on stage wearing his famous adventure hat and took his dousing like a man.
Not willing to be caught off guard, some celebs came prepared for the mess-fest.
“If I get slimed, I’m ready to go,” explained Til’ Death star Brad Garrett. “This [shirt] is reversible…And I’m wearing 1986 Nikes that are orange and black.”
Heroes’ Jimmy Jean Louis, sporting a white Hugo Boss suit, knew he better steer clear of anything green. “I don’t know how I’m going to avoid it, but I’m just going to have to not think about it,” he laughed. [PAGEBREAK]

Appropriately dressed for the occasion was Favorite Movie Actress winner Jessica Alba. The radiant mom-to-be said “I wore green today in honor of the slime!”
Alba joined more of the hottest stars from TV, movies, music and sports, including Janet Jackson, Miley Cyrus, Eddie Murphy and Will Smith, to hand out the coveted orange blimp prizes. Presenter Emile Hirsch got into the action by whacking open a piñata with a guitar to announce The Jonas Brothers as Favorite Music Group, bringing the house full of teens and tweens to their highest shrills and loudest screams.[PAGEBREAK]

Speaking of teens, American Idol star Jordin Sparks (clad in a Nickelodeon orange Diane Von Furstenberg dress) was just happy to finally be in the audience. “I’ve never been to the Kids Choice Awards, but I watched it all the time when I was younger and I’m still a kid, so I still watch it! I’m really excited to see Jack Black. I think he’s hilarious. Nacho Libre is one of my favorite movies of all time.”
Taking a little inspiration from his wrestling superstar persona, Jack Black bounded on stage as a caped spandex-clad green crusader belting out a roaring “I Was Made for Sliming You,” setting the stage for teen pop sensations Miley Cyrus (introduced by the cutest family trio of Will Smith and kids Jaden and Willow) singing a very Grease-inspired performance of her hit “Girl’s Night Out” and Nickelodeon’s The Naked Brothers Band, who rocked out with “I Don’t Wanna Go to School” as leaping skateboarders and BMX bikers, twisting break dancers and high flying gymnasts showed off their moves. Real life rock star couple Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson presented Favorite Reality Show, and took the opportunity to poke some fun at their relationship. “I have your car keys, mid-show snack, pet cactus, and your eyeliner,” Wentz said as he scoured his pockets looking for the list of nominees. Simpson responded, “No, that’s yours.” “Oh, wrong shade, that is mine,” the Fall Out Boy said. “Why don’t girls have pockets?” “Because they have boyfriends, silly,” Simpson giggled. And the award went to… American Idol with host Ryan Seacrest happily accepting the orange statue: “I can’t wait to share this blimp with two of the three judges,” he quipped. Ouch! We all know who that is. Sorry, Simon.[PAGEBREAK]

Perhaps the most over-dressed celeb of the evening, Ashton Kutcher, expressed his embarrassment on stage: “We’re at an award show and I’m the only one dressed in a tux! This is weird for me, weird for you, weird for all of us!” But not for former Burp Award winner Cameron Diaz, who Ashton presented with the Wannabe Award, an annual honor bestowed on a celebrity role model who kids most “want to be.” “This is the biggest honor I have ever received in my entire life because I want to be like you and you want to be like me!” she told the audience.
More shout-outs and laughs came from funnyman–and woman–Steve Carell and Amy Poehler, who got into a thumb wrestling war to see who would announce the Favorite Movie. “I would have won if I didn’t have a thumb cramp,” Carell said. The Office star then bent over for the ultimate wedgey as Poehler ripped out his underwear to read the name of the winner–Alvin and the Chipmunks. “I’m going to hang this from my ceiling because it’s the best award I could ever receive,” said star Jason Lee as he accepted the award. To top off the night, Black brought out surprise slime victim Orlando Bloom to join him for the final soaking. The two strapped themselves into seats onstage and were lifted into mid-air for the event. Bloom confessed, “This is why I became an actor, so that I could stand here at the Kids Choice Awards to take part in the greatest celebrity slime-ing in the history of the world!”
