Love in the Fast Lane

If you want to meet girls, learn how to play the guitar.
      — Ted Nugent

For centuries, movie actresses, TV stars and fashion models have been falling for the biggest names in music. And every once in a while, the reverse happens: A female rock star hooks up with a Hollywood hunk–like Alanis Morrisette and Blade star Ryan Reynolds.

While some couples still live to tell their fairy tale, others crashed and burned–both in the public’s eye. This is not to say musicians don’t deserve happy relationships, but most of them may not have even gotten a second glance from Hollywood hotties if it weren’t for their record contracts.

Here is a Who’s Who list of musical greats who managed to sing and dance their way into the hearts of Hollywood’s leading stars, and the (sometimes disastrous) results of these relationships.

Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson
Couple: Chris Robinson (Black Crowes) & Kate Hudson ( Almost Famous)
Relationship vitals: Married on December 31, 2000 in Aspen, Col.
The mating dance: Kate Hudson, 21, might have forgotten to snap out of her Penny Lane character when she married Robinson, 34, on the spur-of-the moment at her family ranch in Aspen.
Why they’re still together: “Married life is wonderful,” Hudson told The Sydney Morning Herald in January. “I never thought that I would find my husband this early in my life, but I did, and it’s kind of amazing.”
Will they last another year? Yes. They are the only couple that can make a hippie lifestyle look trendy in the Twenty-first century.

Couple: Gwyneth Paltrow (Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow) and Chris Martin (Coldplay)
Relationship Vitals: Gwyneth and Chris wed in a super-secret ceremony two years ago and had their first child, Apple about a year later on May 14, 2004.
The Mating Dance: Chris and Gwyneth met for the first time at a Coldplay concert, where Chris got her number and the rest is history.
Why they’re still together: Considering the birth of their child just one year ago, their love of staying out of the public eye, and their love for each other, it is no wonder the two are still together.
Will they last another year? I would love to say yes, however, in Hollywood a year is a very long time.

Heather Locklear and Richie Sambora
Couple: Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi) & Heather Locklear (The Perfect Man)
Relationship vitals: Married on December 17th, 1994 in Paris; Daughter, Ava Elizabeth, born October 4th, 1997.
The mating dance: According to Locklear herself, on the VH1 show Behind the Music, she asked a friend to introduce the couple. After making a few calls and getting no response, Locklear went to the hotel where Bon Jovi was staying during one of their tour dates in New York where she professed her love for him.
Why they’re still together: Locklear, 40, told USA Weekend magazine last year, that she’s particularly appreciative of her current home life after her first marriage to Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee failed. “You have to have a bad one to appreciate a good one.”
Will they last another year? Sure, why not?

Couple: Renee Zellweger (Cinderella Man) and Kenny Chesney (Country Singer)
Relationship Vitals: Renee and Kenny met in January 2005 and surprised the world with their spur-of-the-moment wedding ceremony just four months after meeting.
The Mating Dance: Zellwegers on-again-off-again relationship with White Stripe’s Jack White turned permanently off when Renee met Kenny at a Tsunami relief fundraiser, just four months later, the two were married in a hush-hush beach wedding.
Why they’re still together: It has only been four months! Need I say anything more?
Will they last another year? My senses tell me no. In reality, people that have been together for four months hardly know each other. In Hollywood, most relationships, married or not, last only four months. See the resemblance?

Couple: Madonna and Guy Ritchie
Madonna and Guy Richie
Relationship vitals: Madonna married director Ritchie on December 22, 2000. They had one child together, Rocco Ritchie in 2000, and Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon was born in 1996 fathered by Carlos Leon.
The Mating Dance: The two met at a dinner party given by pop star Sting and his wife Trudie Styler in 1998.
Why they’re still together: When children are involved, relationships tend to last longer, I believe this is the case with Madonna and Guy.
Will they last another year? It’s hard to say. Things may seem perfect on the outside, but be a mess behind closed doors. Case in point, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston.

Couple: Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives) and J.C Chazez (NSYNC)
Relationship Vitals: The couple has been on and off for the past year, but when they are on, they are on!
The Mating dance: After Eva filed for a divorce from husband Tyler Christopher (General Hospital), she met J.C. at a local dog show trying to bid on the same dog!
Why they’re still together: Eva told Maxim magazine, “I’ve always said I want a farmer, not a hunter. Hunters go for the kill and they move on. A farmer nurtures; he watches things grow.”
Will they last another year? Probably not. Unfortunately for J.C., Eva is the most sought after actress right now and any guy would kill to have her. Therefore, my prediction is she will want to “see other people” before the summer is over.

Dave Navarro and Carmen Elektra
Couple: Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction) & Carmen Electra (Baywatch)

Relationship vitals: The couple got engaged on Aug. 14, 2001
The mating dance: Maybe its Navarro’s slick guitar playing that caught the attention of this
supermodel beauty, plus he dresses better than Carmen‘s ex, Dennis Rodman.
Why they’re still together: “I have other goals, and one of those goals is to raise a family, you know?” Navarro told Launch about his desire to settle down. “I know what it’s like not to have a family and I know what it’s like to be locked in a studio for months at a time, but that’s something that I don’t know about. I think what’s exciting to me right now are things that I don’t know about.”
Will they last another year? Doubtful. Carmen‘s men never last long.

Couple: Cameron Diaz (In Her Shoes) and Justin Timberlake (NSYNC)
Relationship Vitals: Dating since June 2003, Cameron and Justin have entered a publicity nightmare. Rumored since the end of 2004 to be getting married, the nuptials have yet to take place. One might think it is because of the recent rumors of Cameron cheating on Justin with her producer, or Justin cheating on Cameron with a hot brunette, the world may never know.
The Mating Dance: They met at the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards where Justin won Best burp, a title Diaz took home in 2001. It was obviously a match made in heaven.
Why they’re still together: My guess is that they are trying to prove the public wrong. Following the many breakup rumors, the cheating rumors, the marriage rumors, and even the pending court dates, it’s amazing they can still speak to one another.
Will they last another year? Doubtful. No relationship can sustain all the hardships these two have been given, especially in Hollywood. Think P. Diddy and J-Lo.

Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson
Couple: Tommy Lee (Motley Crue) & Pamela Anderson (Baywatch)
Relationship vitals: Married on February 1995; Anderson filed for divorce November 19, 1996; Renewed wedding vows Dec. 24, 1996; Anderson filed assault charges on February 1998; Lee released from jail in September 1998; Reconciled 1999; Separated 2000; Sons, Brendan Thomas, 5 and Dylan Jagger, 4.
The mating dance: After carrying a long list of former lovers under her belt, this Playboy centerfold pinup married Lee only four days after they met in Hawaii. They even got “laid” at their wedding reception.
Why it didn’t work:: “It makes me cringe when I hear that I beat my wife,” Lee tells Rolling Stone magazine. “I’m like, ‘Oh, my God no. That’s not f—in’ true.’ I grabbed her, I shook her — which is wrong, I’m not saying that’s right — but for God’s sake, I never hit her. I would never hit Pamela ever. They just use the word for domestic violence — beating — not knowing the parameters. And you’re like, ‘I’m a f—in’ wife-beater? That’s f—in’ crazy!'”
Will they get back together? Maybe when the two reunite for a second honeymoon… home video included, of course.

Couple: Travis Barker (Blink 182) and Shanna Moakler (actress, former Miss. USA)
Relationship Vitals: Married since October 30, 2004, they have a son together as well as a reality show, but then again, who doesn’t have a reality show these days?
The Mating Dance: Travis proposed in true rock fashion; he asked Shanna to marry him on the Disney ride the haunted mansion amidst the ghosts and goblins.
Why they’re still together: They do say opposites attract, and these two are polar opposites. Travis being a rock star and Shanna as the former Miss. USA, there love runs deeper then just appearance.
Will they last another year? In my opinion, they have a better chance lasting than most rock couples, he’s the extreme one, where as she lends a healthy balance of normalcy, well, as normal as it can be being married to a tattoo-covered rocker.

Jennifer Lopez and
Couple: Jennifer Lopez (Angel Eyes) and Sean “P.Diddy” Combs

Relationship vitals: Dated from 1998 to February 2001
The mating dance: Lopez gave the “we’re just close friends” line until both started showing up to gala events hand-in-hand.
Why it didn’t work: “I was born a romantic. I operate from the heart–that’s who I am,” Lopez
tells Britain’s In Style magazine about her failed relationship with Combs. “Love is a big inspiration in my singing, in my acting, and in my dancing. I believe in unconditional love.”
Will they get back together? No. Lopez wed choreographer/dancer Cris Judd on the rebound, dumped him for an ill-fated romance with Ben Affleck, and then moved on to Latin crooner and hubby of one-year, Marc Anthony.

Couple: Heidi Klum (model/actress) and Seal (singer)
Relationship Vitals: Five months along in her pregnancy, Heidi and Seal were married on May 10, 2005 near beautiful Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
The Mating Dance: The singer flew the Victoria’s Secret model to an igloo perched on a 14,000 ft. glacier to ask for her hand in marriage just two days before Christmas.
Why they’re still together: Any guy that proposed at the top of a 14,000 ft. glacier deserves the time and effort.
Will they last another year? It has only been two weeks, give them a break, I’m sure they will last at least one year.

Couple: Billy Joel & Christie Brinkley (National Lampoon’s Vacation)
Relationship vitals: Started dating in 1983; married in 1985; separated in late 1993; divorced in early 1994; Daughter Alexa Ray Joel, 19.
The mating dance: The musician fell in love with her after he met her in St. Bart’s, where
she was on a photo shoot for a Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.
Why it didn’t work: Joel was never home after he began touring and recording incessantly.
Will they get back together? No. Not even if Brinkley says she’ll be his downtown girl. Besides, she’s already remarried a couple times since then.

Marilyn Manson and Rose McGowan
Couple: Marilyn Manson & Rose McGowan (Jawbreaker)
Relationship vitals: Met 1998; Engaged February 12, 1999; Ended January 2001
The mating dance: McGowan looked within her sinister-self and found the anti-Christ superstar quite a charmer.
Why it didn’t work: “There is great love, but our lifestyle difference is, unfortunately, even
greater,” McGowan said in a brief statement in January.
Will they get back together? Only if Manson begins wearing his own makeup.
