BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Apr. 17, 2001 — Call it an entirely new music experience.
With Alanis Morissette crooning a capella in the caverns of the Navajo Indian reservation and Shawn Colvin strumming along with native drummers in Bora Bora, the Microsoft Network has launched Music in High Places, a television series that will complement its online music venture.
The show takes artists to remote locations to present their music in a new format–no speakers, no monitors, no microphones–and experience the culture of their exotic locales. While Morissette chose to explore Arizona’s Navajo reservation, the band Collective Soul chose to explore Morocco.
We went there to learn we felt there was something there to be offered, said the group’s lead singer, Ed Roland.
At Tuesday’s launch party, held at the Museum of Television & Radio in Beverly Hills, Calif., the four inaugural artists discussed their involvement in the project, and all but Morissette treated guests to a live acoustic performance.
Music in High Places, which debuted on MSN DirecTV last year, will air on MTV beginning Monday, April 23rd. The episodes, as well as expanded material, is currently available on http://www.musicinhighplaces.msn.com.
