British actor Jude Law was officially divorced from wife actress Sadie Frost Wednesday, Reuters reports, and court papers indicated Frost blamed Law for exacerbating her post-natal depression. Frost said Law‘s behavior forced her to seek treatment three times following the birth of the couple’s third child in January. Still, the couple, who were married in 1997, wanted the divorce to be an easy one for the sake of their three children, Rafferty, 5, Iris, 3, and Rudy, 10 months. “We have equally agreed that we will do all in our power to make certain that this is as painless a process as possible for the benefit of the children,” they said in a joint statement in August.
Witherspoon Gives Birth to Son
Actress Reese Witherspoon and her actor husband Ryan Phillippe welcomed their second child Oct. 23, a son named Deacon, Reuters reports. The couple, who was married in 1999, has a 4-year-old daughter, Ava Elizabeth.
P. Diddy’s a “Sweat” Hog?
Workers’ rights activists accused one of hip-hop mogul Sean “P. Diddy” Combs’ suppliers of using a “sweatshop” in Honduras to make garments for his trendy clothing line. Reuters reports Combs called a news conference to say he knew nothing about it and was “shocked” at the revelations, promising an investigation that would have “zero tolerance” for any labor law violations in factories producing his Sean John clothing line. “We are shocked at this information,” Combs said. He also said his company’s compliance officer had made five inspections of the plant this year. “We are launching an investigation into this matter, and if there is any proof of wrongdoing, we will terminate our relationship with this factory immediately,” the rapper added.
Forget About Britney Spears
The Japanese businessman, who recently filed a lawsuit against Britney Spears for emotional distress caused by her bodyguards, is now suing the city of Los Angeles for allegedly taking away his dignity during a search of his hotel room last year, The Associated Press reports. Masahiko Shizawa was ordered to stay 300 yards away from the Spears for being what the judge called “abnormally obsessed and fixated with” the 21-year-old pop star and had his hotel room searched in conjunction with the restraining order.
Columbine‘s Moore Sued Over Documentary
James Nichols, the brother of the Oklahoma City bombing conspirator Terry Nichols, is suing filmmaker Michael Moore, claiming he was tricked into appearing in the Oscar-winning documentary Bowling for Columbine, AP reports. Nichols, who admits in the film he owns a gun, accuses Moore of libel, defamation of character, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress and is asking for a jury trial and damages ranging from $10 million to $20 million on each of nine counts, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Polanski Won’t Get His Day in Court
In his libel suit against Vanity Fair magazine, director Roman Polanski will not be able to give his testimony via a video link from France. Variety reports Polanski, 69, is seeking damages from Conde Nast Publications over a July 2002 story in Vanity Fair that claimed he tried to seduce a young Swedish woman two days after his wife Sharon Tate was murdered by followers of Charles Manson in 1969. The trial is to take place in London, but Polanski cannot travel there to testify in person because of extradition treaties between United Kingdom and the United States, where he still faces sentencing following a 1977 conviction for statutory rape. The director was hoping the charges would be dropped before his suit went to trial.
Fox Top Ratings With World Series
Baseball fever helped Fox win its third straight week in the ratings as an estimated 23.2 million people watched the Florida Marlins beat the New York Yankees Saturday night for the championship, the AP reports. Fox won the Nielsen ratings for the week of Oct. 20-26, averaging 14.3 million viewers followed by CBS (12.6 million); NBC (10.8 million); ABC (9.3 million); the WB (4.2 million); UPN (3.5 million). The top 10 shows were: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation CBS; World Series Game 6: Florida at N.Y. Yankees, Fox; World Series Game 4: N.Y. Yankees at Florida, Fox; Survivor: Pearl Islands, CBS; World Series Game 5: N.Y. Yankees at Florida, Fox; World Series Game 3: N.Y. Role Call: Bloom Enters Heaven
Orlando Bloom, who recently starred in the smash hit Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, has signed on to star in Ridley Scott‘s Kingdom of Heaven. According the Hollywood Reporter, the story is set in 12 century Europe and the exotic Far East and centers on a young peasant who becomes a knight, saves a kingdom and falls in love with a princess.
