Nicole Kidman speaks out

NEW YORK — Very few people expected Nicole Kidman to talk to the press at all when Moulin Rouge was screened at New York City’s Paris theater last week. But as Kidman–dressed to the nines in a white gown inspired by the film’s costumes–walked the red carpet, she took her time speaking with Hollywood.com about the end of her marriage to Tom Cruise and how she’s coped with the stress of being in the spotlight.

“I’m fine,” Kidman said. “I mean, I’m getting through. I think so much of life is the things that happen to you, and they give you wisdom and they give you hope. And you keep moving forward. It’s been a tough time, but everybody has tough times.”

So how does a superstar cope with the tough times?

The answer, in a nutshell, is good friends and family–Mum and Dad and Sis have all been very supportive.

Oh, and having her latest film, Moulin Rouge, open the Cannes Film Festival in May is pretty nifty, too.

“It’s a beautiful film,” Kidman said. But beyond beauty, it’s a musical, and yes, in her role as a fin de siecle courtesan, she does really sing.

Moulin Rouge also stars Ewan McGregor. The film opens in New York and Los Angeles on May 18.
