Back story: Lachey, who sings in the pop group 98°, contributed a song to Simpson’s debut album, and the two hit it off at a Christmas party. Both were smitten from the start, and unlike the Britney Spears-Justin Timberlake dodgeball game, this teenybopper couple admitted their relationship from the start and won the support of their young fans. Adding to the intrigue is Simpson’s vow to remain a virgin until marriage. Lachey didn’t seem to mind. “Early on, right after we met, I said, ‘I’m gonna marry that girl,'” he has said. “I just had this feeling before I even told her I loved her.”
But… Somewhere around the release of Simpson’s second album, Irresistible (which Lachey contributed more songs to), they went their separate ways. “Nick and I are not together right now. I haven’t seen him in three months. With our schedules right now it makes us sad to talk on the phone more than anything,” Simpson told a New York radio station. “It’s one of those things where right now we’re taking our time apart, and focusing on our careers. I still am completely in love with him so I’m sure that later on in life …”
