Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
Starring: Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Chris Evans
Directed by: Edgar Wright
Opens August 13, 2010
Scott Pilgrim (Cera) is living the dream: He’s got the band and the girl (Winstead). Unfortunately for him, with the girl comes a nightmare, in the form of her seven ex-boyfriends (Brandon Routh, Chris Evans, et al.) … all of whom want to kill him … and all of whom are armed with superpowers.
What We Think: Michael Cera fatigue got you down? Well be excited, be very excited about this adaptation of the beloved Scott Pilgrim graphic-novel series, because Edgar Wright is the only name that really matters. The writer/director/Tarantino crony behind modern masterpiece Shaun of the Dead (yeah, we said it) is the perfect man for this job; expect him to deliver the optimum blend of dry humor, non-cliched romance and over-the-top gore en route to one of the more fun experiences of the summer.
Cool to Know: The aforementioned quasi-superhuman characters that Routh and Evans play won’t be their first: Routh, of course, played the Man of Steel in Superman Returns, and Evans recently landed the title role in the forthcoming Captain America.
