The 2001 Turkey Award Poll Results

Some things never change, and Hollywood is no exception. Movie studios and the media (yes, we’re guilty, too) overly publicize mediocre films, hoping the big-name stars strolling around the red carpet during the premiere will help to sell overpriced tickets. And it usually works. We movie fans flock to theatres hoping to see miracles happen, and maybe even catch a glimpse of the “next big thing.”

Not all movies can be great. Some can be very, very bad. We gave you our picks for the 10 worst movies of the year, and you responded. Now, we’re dishonored to present the 2001 Turkey Award to…

Pearl Harbor, where Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett‘s complicated love triangle with Kate Beckinsale just wasn’t all it was cracked up to be, according to 21 percent of your votes.

David Spade‘s Joe Dirt was a close second with 19.9 percent of your votes. Seems like the actor will have to clean up his white-trash act, trim off the mullet hairdo and brush up on the jokes that simply failed to amuse.

Moulin Rouge‘s Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman may think they’ve got Oscar potential, but with 13.2 percent of the votes, you seem to think not.

Word of advice to Elvis impersonators? Try not to put your talents on film. 3000 Miles to Graceland landed in fourth place with 9.4 percent of the votes.

Mark Wahlberg shows that he makes a better rockstar than an ape, receiving 7.6 percent for Planet of the Apes. Saving Silverman‘s Jason Biggs was also a big Loser with 7.2 percent of votes. If there’s no pie, this guy just can’t seem to keep up the pace.

Warren Beatty‘s Town & Country got 6.5 percent of the votes. We’re surprised that many people heard of it. Anthony Hopkins on the other hand, created quite a stir (fry) with his brain-eating scene in Hannibal, which won the film 6.3 percent. Yuck.

John Travolta‘s Swordfish finished ninth with 5.6 percent. Think it was the gut that did it?

Last but not least was Final Fantasy, with 3.4 percent of your votes, making it the best of the worst, despite its utter lack of a good story.
