PITT AND HOMER: TOGETHER AGAIN

Brad Pitt just loves him some Homer. He WAS Achilles in Troy, after all. And now, according to Cinematical.com, he is going to produce The Odyssey, with Sean Bean (Boromir from LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring) playing Odysseus. Except this isn’t your ordinary Greek tale, oh no. They plan is to “transfer the tale to a futuristic setting in outer space” with George Miller in negotiations to direct. Fascinating. I agree with Cinematical.com that Pitt should totally cast himself in the role. What a strange trip it would be.

J.LO A NEW SATC GAL?

Jennifer Lopez wants in on some Sex and the City action. She apparently has put the word out she’d love to be a part of the upcoming sequel, if they could find a spot for her, Hollyscoop.com reports. Lopez  herself once said, “I adore the show and nearly popped up in the TV show, but then did Will and Grace instead.” A source said: “Jennifer has got her heart set on joining Carrie and the girls. The bosses are trying to think of a way of fitting her in without it being cheesy.” Having Jennifer show up wouldn’t be cheesy. Just make her a designer. Or a coffee shop owner.

BONJOUR, STEVE!

Steve Carell is heading to France with his next comedy. According to the Hollywood Reporter, he is attached to play the title character in The Adventures of Brigadier Gerard, a comedy set during the Napoleonic Wars. Based on stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Carell will play the title character, the bravest soldier in Napoleon’s army and also the dumbest. Gerard follows Napoleon from his rise to power to his permanent exile. Sounds like a mix between Get Smart and The Pink Panther to me — and not in a good way. Steve, branch out!

WALL STREET 2? JUST SAY NO…

They never learn, do they. A sequel to the 1987 Oliver Stone movie about greed is just not a good idea, in any way you look at it. Of course, Michael Douglas in negotiations to reprise his Oscar-winning role as the slick, suspender-wearing Gordon Gekko, and the story is reportedly picking up after Gekko has been released from prison for securities fraud. Cinematical.com says it’s being fast-tracked to capitalize on the stock market’s new relevance in ordinary people’s lives. Nope, you still aren’t convincing me.

CHIKLIS, BRODY ARE GOING BACK TO HIGH SCHOOL

And they are refusing to star in the school musical. Just kidding. Actually, Adrien Brody and Michael Chiklis have joined the cast of indie comedy High School, Variety reports. The story’s centers on a high school valedictorian who gets high with the school stoner and faces a drug test, then decides to get the entire school stoned so he can beat the test by making everyone fail. Brody will portray a drug dealer and Chiklis will play the school principal. Now, that’s an ambitious way to beat a drug test, but a whole movie about that? Seems sketchy.

PUPPETS WHO MURDER

Every since Team America: World Police, I’ve thought there was an untapped resource in puppetry. I guess the Jim Henson Co. agrees with me. They are developing the feature Happytime Murders, which Variety reports is a puppet comedy in the film noir detective genre, and will be populated by a mix of human characters and puppets in the Henson style of irreverence and parody. The story is about a puppet detective forced to solve a string of murders around the Happytime Gang, the cast of a popular children’s show. Oh, I’m so there.

A CANCER COMEDY

Should we laugh at cancer? Oh hell yes — especially if it’s done by Seth Rogen. He’s optioned the script I’m With Cancer, a comedic autobiographical spec script that Rogen will produce, according to the Reporter. Cancer is writer Will Reiser’s autobiographical account of his struggle to beat cancer, with the story centering on a 25-year-old who finds out he has the disease. A chortle a minute, I’m sure.
