SEAN PENN PLAYS THE GAME
Yes, Sean Penn, you do make it hard for us to appreciate you sometimes, but we’re always happy when you are acting. The recently anointed Best Actor may be looking at Fair Game, the drama about the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson, as his next gig, Variety reports. Directed by Mr. and Mrs. Smith Doug Liman and starring Naomi Watts, Penn is in negotiations to play Ambassador Joseph Wilson, Plame’s husband. Wilson watched his wife’s CIA status become compromised after he wrote op-ed columns that accused the Bush Administration of manipulating intelligence about weapons of mass destruction to justify the invasion of Iraq. Take it, Sean!

JAMES FRANCO LEARNS TO HOWL
No, not at the moon (but James Franco would make an awesome werewolf). Actually, in this scenario, the Milk star is set to star in Howl, which centers on the obscenity trial over Allen Ginsberg’s infamous anti-establishment poem, as well as an animated reimagining of the poem itself. Wonder if there will be some pot smoking involved? Sounds like that might just be the right frame of mind to watch this film.

LITTLE FOCKERS RUNNING AROUND
They just can’t get enough of that last name, can they? According to the Hollywood Reporter, the long-gestating third installment of the comedy franchise Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers will finally see the light of day. Little Fockers is expected to revolve around the children of Greg (Ben Stiller) and his wife, Pam (Teri Polo), natch. Stiller, Robert De Niro and Owen Wilson are in negotiations to star. Owen, who has a small part in the first two pictures as Polo’s ex-boyfriend, could have an expanded role in the new film. That should make it worthwhile then.

MORGAN AIN’T NO LOSER
Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the new comic book It boy. First, he is starring in the upcoming Watchmen as The Comedian, and now he’s in negotiations to topline The Losers, an adaptation of the DC-Vertigo comic book about a band of black ops commandos who are set up to be killed by their own government, Variety reports. They barely survive but regroup in the interest of revenge and the opportunity to remove their names from a secret CIA death list and to conduct covert operations against the CIA. Morgan would play Clay, the group’s leader, whose signature look favors black suits without ties.

It’s about time Mel Gibson gets in front of the camera again. He’s starring in Edge of Darkness, his first acting gig since 2002’s Signs, playing a homicide cop whose 24-year-old daughter is murdered on the steps of his home. His search for her killers leads him to a world of corporate cover-ups and government collusion, causing a CIA operative (Ray Winstone) to be sent to clean up the evidence. Wait, maybe he should get Jeffrey Dean Morgan to help him out.

CUSACK AND CORDDRY JUMP IN THE HOT TUB
Oh, but it’s not just your ordinary hot tub, oh no. John Cusack and Rob Corddry have boarded the comedy Hot Tub Time Machine, which follows a group of guys who have grown frustrated with their adult lives. They return to the ski lodge where they partied as teens to find answers and are transported to 1987 via their hot tub, a bubbly time machine. Glad to see Cusack doing comedy again.
