Thursday: ’30 Rock’

[IMG:L]30 Rock — 9/8c on NBC

After weeks of teasing us with those “Holiday Funtimes” commercials, not to mention the series’ best run of episodes, 30 Rock finally delivers its holiday episode.

And given the barrage of non-ironic holiday specials we’ve had to endure, a little satire thereof is just what Santa ordered.

Coming off arguably its funniest-ever ending, the show’s holiday episode boasts a none-too-shabby beginning: The staffers celebrate with a party–complete with a lusty Santa!

Plus, we get to meet Liz’s (Tina Fey) parents (Buck Henry, Anita Gillette) and brother (Andy Richter).

And what would a Christmas episode be without a grinch–that’s right, Jack’s (Alec Baldwin) nasty curmudgeon of a mother (Elaine Stritch, reprising her Emmy-winning, scene-stealing guest-starring role) is back!

It’s a repeat, but SNL’s theme episodes–old or new–are, frankly, better than its current first-run airings from back in the non-strike days. Basically, stick with NBC on this night; even The Office’s repeat of a “A Benihana Christmas” at 8 p.m. is well worth your time.
