Thursday: The NAACP Image Awards

[IMG:L]NAACP Image Awards — 8/7c on Fox

February is to awards shows what December is to holiday specials–and after all, it has been a full four nights since the Grammys!

Tonight it’s the Image Awards’ turn–and don’t expect a huge A-lister drop-off just because it’s not the Globes or the Grammys or the Oscars or the Emmys.

Among the nominees are Will Smith, Halle Berry, Alicia KeysTracy Morgan (what a great acceptance speech that would be!), Prince and Tavis Smiley.

D.L. Hughley is, unsurprisingly, the host–he’ll take pretty much any hosting gig he can get–of the Image Awards, which honor “the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts as well as those individuals or groups who promote social justice.”

Slated to appear are Ugly Betty stars America Ferrera and Vanessa Williams, American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, The Unit star Regina Taylor and many more.

Also on tap are an induction into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame for Stevie Wonder (what took so long?!) and the Vanguard Award for Aretha Franklin, who is fresh off controversy: The music icon was publicly none too thrilled over Beyonce’s Grammy performance, during which she referred to Tina Turner, and not Franklin, as “the queen.”
