Valentine’s Day Special — Playboy Party

Holmby Hills, Calif. Feb. 9, 2001 — It’s Valentine’s Day, that ever-so-tender, romantic holiday of the year when you either spend time with the sweetheart you’ve got or go looking for one.

And what better place to go looking for love (or just pretend you are) than at a boys-and-babes- packed party thrown by Hugh Hefner and his seven – count ’em, seven – sweethearts at the Playboy mansion?

That’s exactly what several hundred guests figured last weekend when they showed up for Playboy’s annual Valentine’s Day bash, held by 74-year-old Hef and his seven buxom blonde girlfriends (Tiffany, Stephanie, Cathyi, Katie, Buffy, Tina and Rigina, who range in age from 19 to 28).

A laundry list of Hollywood stars attended the shindig, including Kevin Spacey, Benicio Del Toro, Paul Sorvino and Thora Birch.

Tobey Maguire, Martin Landau and Andy Dick hung out on the tented patio, where they could munch catered hors d’oeuvres of shrimp, sushi and lobster or grab drinks from a bar made of flagstones. Close by, the infamous Grotto beckoned.

Pauly Shore, Bill Maher and Jenny McCarthy were also seen rubbing elbows with the requisite Playmates, ex-Playmates and wish-they-were Playmates, some of whom apparently either forgot their outfits that evening or chose to follow an “optional dress” code.

No angel himself, David Boreanaz, star of the recently released and appropriately named movie “Valentine,” was spotted at the bar doing shots and flirting with a girl in a pink wig and silver cowboy hat (“You look like a candy heart,” he was overheard telling her).

Alan Thicke (whose hair certainly isn’t these days) and Scott Baio socialized near the snacks, while a sulky John Lovitz stood alone (maybe the lack of desserts put him in a bad mood?).

Dressed in his signature pajamas and bathrobe, Hef himself boogied the night away with two of his lovely ladies on the dance floor in the mansion’s wood-and-stone main hall, where DJ Junior Sanchez spun music from high atop a flight of stairs.

The same stairs, in fact, on which comedienne Roseanne was seen first getting groped by a gal pal and then falling down. All caught on tape by roving cameramen, natch.

Apparently some of us are looking for love in all the wrong places.
