The Skinny: Straight from the Broadway stage comes the feature film version of the hit Bob Fosse musical. Velma Kelley (Zeta-Jones) is a nightclub sensation but when she shoots her philandering husband, she lands on Chicago’s famed murderess row. She hires Chicago’s slickest lawyer, Billy Flynn (Gere), who makes her the talk of the town–until, that is, Roxie Hart (Zellweger) comes on the scene. A starry-eyed wanna-be, she is seduced by the city’s promise of style and adventure and eventually kills her abusive lover. Billy recognizes a made-for-tabloids story and takes on Roxie’s case, much to Velma’s chagrin. Infamy is Roxie’s ticket to stardom and Billy turns her crime of passion into celebrity headlines, where in this town, murder is a form of entertainment. Everyone loves a legend–but in Chicago, there’s only room for one.
