When Hollywood.com sat down with legendary makeup artist Rick Baker, he teased his latest project, the Angelina Jolie-led Sleeping Beauty with a twist, Maleficent. “Angelina requested me — she’s kind of hard to turn down. It’s not the traditional Maleficent from the cartoon. But it’s going to be cool.”
Based on the first snapshot of Jolie as the evil sorceress, still well known from her first appearance in the 1959 animated Disney film, it looks like a fairly traditional take (minus the green skin). But who knows if Jolie’s natural beauty will be intact throughout the reimagined origin story. Similar to the Broadway musical Wicked, the Maleficent live-action treatment will tell the tale of how the Jolie’s character become who we know her to be. We’ll see a young version of the character, as well as Elle Fanning as the film’s princess. What happens in-between…is a mystery.
Maleficent commenced shooting today in anticipation of its March 14, 2014 release date. So soak in this portrait of Jolie — it might be all we see for sometime.
