We all recall, several years back, when Chuck Norris jokes were a blossoming trend. Jokes about the man’s physical prowess, his superhuman abilities, and his being the pinnacle of traditional masculinity. But there weren’t too many jokes about Chuck Norris not liking curse words. Those jokes wouldn’t have really fit the theme. Nonetheless, Walker, Texas Ranger‘s aversion to foul language has manifested publicly, as the actor has demanded a cleanup of the The Expendables 2 script.
The Expendables was a super-violent action flick, chock full of “colorful” dialogue, that naturally earned an R-rating. Norris, one of the many new stars to enter The Expendables universe for its upcoming sequel, has affirmed that he will not have this sort of thing if he is to be part of the next movie. Norris told a Polish periodical (cock your eyebrows accordingly) that The Expendables 2 producers have accepted Norris’ conditions to clean up the dialogue, and that The Expendables 2 will aim for a PG-13 rating.
Says Norris, “In Expendables 2, there was a lot of vulgar dialogue in the screenplay. Fot this reason, many young people wouldn’t be able to watch this. But I don’t play in movies like this,” Norris explained. “Due to that I said I won’t be a part of that if the hardcore language is not ereased. Producers accepted my conditions and the movie will be classified in the category of PG-13.”
Some Expendables fans might find this to be a bit of bad news. The 2010 film embraced (and then some) a lot of the traditional aspects of adrenal, explosive action films, paying a sort of homage to the everything-in-excess movies of the genre. Has Norris, whose conservative values have been long-publicized, removed this sensibility from The Expendables 2?
