I’m not sure The Darkest Hour is going to dig deep the way some of the end-of-year prestige films aim to, but if anything, it’s going to be a heck of a lot of goofy fun. They fight invisible aliens! Emilie Hirsch uses a bazooka! Ridiculous is not a synonym for bad, in my book.
The official poster for the sci-fi movie has arrived and abandons big celebrity faces in favor of mass destruction. Judging by all the wayward lightning bolts, there are a couple hundred unseen extraterrestrials in there too. That’s the beauty of unseen bad guys—they’re everywhere.

The Darkest Hour stars Emile Hirsch and Olivia Thirlby, directed by Chris Gorak and invades theaters (hopefully not invisibly) on December 25.
