We know that the bombastic Ian McShane will play the villainous pirate Blackbeard in the new Pirates of the Caribbean film, but he may be getting some help of the undead variety. Johnny Depp made a televised appearance during Disney’s presentation at San Diego Comic Con to share some details about Pirates Of The Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides, and let slip that he’d be facing off against zombies in the new adventure. While this could potentially be big news, the series has included the undead before, with the cursed pirates in the first film. I don’t want to get into an argument over what technically counts as a zombie, but it’s possible that Depp meant the return of the villains from the first film, over shambling hordes of peglegged foes. I’m personally hoping for actual pirate zombies, because zombies that already have brain-destroying syphilis could be hilarious. (Plus, they could fight Dr. McNinja, which would be so awesome it would make the internet explode.)
Pirates Of The Caribbean 4, which also stars Penelope Cruz, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Sam Claflin and Geoffrey Rush, is due out on May 20, 2011. Here’s the first official photo, which helpfully informs us that Jack is in the film and will, at some point, stand on a beach.
