It’s only a couple of weeks until the much-anticipated Suicide Squad hits theaters. We’ve already seen a great deal of Harley Quinn (it is her big screen debut, after all) and the other squad members. The character that’s had the most amount of hype and the least amount of actual information and screen-time is the Joker — and it’s probably because Jared Leto has such big shoes to fill.
Heath Ledger was brilliant as the Joker in The Dark Knight. He was creepy. He was deranged. He was everything the Joker is supposed to be. Can Leto hold up? We’re really not sure! Suicide Squad has put the Joker at the forefront of marketing, but managed to reveal next-to-nothing about his character. Pretty much all we’ve deducted is that Jared Leto looks frightening and there will be some sort of love story because the film features Harley Quinn.
Finally, Warner Brothers has thrown us a little bone and given the Joker his own trailer. It’s the closest look we’ve had at the character yet and we’ve been waiting a very, very long time. Remember when that first picture was leaked last year? That feels like a millennium ago.
