Steven Spielberg must be bored. And what’s the logical solution to boredom? Why, robots of course! (especially ones like these from the ’80s. Man, those things were sweet.)
Vulture reports that DreamWorks recently optioned a novel by Daniel H. Wilson called Robopocalypse. The reason? Spielberg had mentioned once upon a time that he had an interest in making it his next project. In no time, the book (which doesn’t even release till June!) was adapted by Drew Goddard (co-writer of Cloverfield).
So basically this means that Spielberg controls Hollywood. That shouldn’t be much of a surprise to you, though. All you need to be successfully in Tinsel Town is a mention from him and voila! Your movie/script will be optioned and green lit by a studio in no time. One source told Vulture this: “With DreamWorks, everything is potentially a Steven project — until it’s not. That’s why everyone’s in a frenzy trying to read it.”
That just further proves the point that Steven Spielberg is King of Hollywood and can literally do whatever he wants. Regardless if he commits to Robopocalypse or not, this film forever has the stamp of approval from one of the greatest directors of all time. And if the movie does happen and Spielberg does take part in the project, there is no doubt it will be totally awesome. We’re aching for a new robot movie anyway — particularly one that isn’t rooted in Michael Bay. Bazinga!
