François Nars Gives Us A Peak Into His Tahitian Hideaway

When you’re the namesake of one the world’s leading cosmetics brands, it’s hard to imagine having much time for anything but work. François Nars (from NARS Cosmetics), however, is proving us all wrong with his newest endeavor— a photography book. Photography is not a new hobby but people may not be aware that NARS Cosmetics campaigns are often shot by the brand’s founder himself. François Nars actually discovered his love for photography after shooting the first ever NARS advertising campaign. In fact, Nars has been adding to his ever-expanding empire over the years with several photography books.

The book is a study and celebration of Tahitian life

What is new, however, is the subject matter. Having published several other books about makeup brimming with glossy photos of models, this is Nars’ first foray into landscape photography.  The book is filled with images from Nars’ private island (yes, private island), Motu Tané, off the coast of Tahiti. Tahiti: Faery Lands was shot over the course of ten years and is a study and celebration of Tahitian life.

Priced at $100 ($65.74 on pre-order) and arriving in a slipcase, this book is nothing but luxury. The price may seem a bit steep but this is a collection of photos that any makeup or culture enthusiast will appreciate.
