This is the second part of our hair series where each day we profile a member of our staff and the products they vow by. Today we’re highlighting our Social Media and Lifestyle Editor, Dianna Cohen, and what it takes to maintain her never-processed, virgin hair.
I’ve been using Biolage products since I can remember. My mother just always had them in every bathroom growing up and I’ve stuck with it ever since. You really can’t beat the conditioning balm. I shampoo 2-3 times a week, but it all really depends on if I pretend to workout. When I kid myself that I like going to the gym, I’ll briskly walk on the treadmill and have to wash my hair after, bringing it up to a cool 4 shampoos a week, but never more. I’ve never colored or processed my hair, so I focus on super hydrating, rather than color-specifc, treatments.
I don’t use normal conditioner, just a leave-in balm every time I wash my hair. I layer the Biolage deep conditioner with basically dollar store Queen Helene Cholesterol Crème, in hopes that the cholesterol is making my hair ‘fat’ and healthy. Leave that on for about 10 minutes and ALWAYS wash with cold water. Decades ago, a hairstylist told me that the hair cuticle closes with cold water. Apparently that has some significance to me, because I keep freezing myself out of the shower for the sake of healthy hair.

Post shower, twist in a towel, a gentle pat or two, then comes the Morrocan Oil. Two pumps and you’re golden. Rub on the bottom of the hair then work up to the scalp. Five minutes of a gentle scalp massage for total self-indulgence, followed by a through combing. ALWAYS a comb, never a brush. Air dry, sleep on while wet. I’m not a blow-dry or much of hot-tools while damp kind of gal. I will run a super skinny BaByliss Pro straightening iron through the front pieces and around the crown of the head so it looks a little polished. I like to keep the natural wave, for the most part.
Once dry, it’s time to get your Kate Moss on. Oribe Texturizing Spray is the trick to giving your hair that light, French volume. It keeps it soft (other texturizing sprays are super tacky to the touch) and it smells GREAT (a rarity in the hair care/aerosol can department).
Day two, I use Klorane dry shampoo. All in all, it’s okay. It smells decent and I’m not 100% sure it works all the time. I usually get it because Ricky’s has the buy-one-get-one-half-off situation. I’m still looking for the one. Any suggestions…anyone?
