TV’s Best Dressed: Megan Draper on ‘Mad Men’

It’s often mentioned that Megan Draper was created as an ultra-hip foil to Don Draper’s increasingly old-fashioned leanings. She sets up a point of contrast, that’s for sure: she brings a modern aesthetic that none of the other characters have had a chance to catch up with (Joan’s struggling to get out of the early ’60s, both fashion-wise and attitude-wise, and Peggy will sadly never be up to date on trends; it’s just not in her DNA).

While fans are divided on the character (many take issue with the deployment of a walking, talking plot device), I think we can all agree that her wardrobe is fascinating. As she’s come into her acting career in season six, we’ve seen her clothes get increasingly out there (in a good way!). Goodbye to the simple yet fashionable brightly colored shifts of season five – now it’s all about paisleys, rayon, blinding metallics, and false eyelashes that look like they might just crawl off her face – and we mean that in the best way possible.

As a character who’s seemingly good at everything (with the possible exception of being married to Don Draper – though that’s a Herculean task if there ever was one), her fashion follows suit: whether understated or over-the-top, she always looks fabulous. We’re excited to see how she fares as she crosses over into the ’70s, and if the promo images are any indication, season seven Megan will be just as glamorous as ever – yet another reason to look forward to the April 17th premiere!

Her infamous “Zou Bisou Bisou” mini dress with accordian sleeves might just be our favorite look – what about you? Share in the comments!
