WESTWOOD, Calif., June 11, 2000— Move over, Julia; Hollywood’s got a new beloved.
When Lara Croft: Tomb Raider star Angelina Jolie pulled up solo to the Mann Village Theater at the Los Angeles premiere of her film, she was greeted with throngs of fans screaming “ANGIE! ANGIE!” and waving posters, magazine covers and disposable cameras. Not daunted in the least, the actress shook hands with her fans and signed as many autographs as she could.
Jolie stars as the adventure-seeking Lara Croft in the big-screen adaptation of the popular video game. The film follows her quest to find two halves of an ancient triangle that gives its owner godlike powers. Directed by Simon West, it co-stars Iain Glen, Daniel Craig, Noah Taylor and Jolie‘s own father, Jon Voight.
