Country singer Randy Travis underwent heart surgery on Monday after being admitted to a Texas hospital, People reports. Travis entered the hospital on Sunday in critical condition after suffering “complications of recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy,” his rep stated in a press release. Viral cardiomyopathy is an infection that affects the heart muscles and could lead to heart failure.
Travis’s sister-in-law, Teresa Traywick, tells People, “We have been told he has had surgery. Our prayers are going out to him because my husband just had a heart attack last year, so it is in their family.”
“Their mother passed away at an early age with her heart, so it is like these boys are following right in their footsteps,” Traywick continues. “My prayers are with them. That’s all I can say right now.” There’s been no update on Travis’ condition since his surgery.
