Remember that whole thing where Ariana Grande went to a bakery, licked a bunch of doughnuts that were left out on a counter, then left without buying any of them? As bizarre and rude as it was, that act did more than just momentarily tarnish the starlet’s reputation — it got her banned from the White House.
This information came to light in a collection of hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee that Wikileaks published on Friday. According to the email chain, Grande was being considered for a high profile performance at the White House last year when news of her malicious doughnut-licking made headlines. Unfortunately for Ariana, it wasn’t just the doughnut-licking that made the White House pass, it was the part where she jokingly said “I hate Americans.” Whoops.
Upon reviewing the performance, White House rep Bobby Schmuck simply said “Nope, sorry.” Okay, so it was a bit more than just doughnut-licking and hating Americans. The singer was also rejected because of some other controversies.
The email listed her offenses:
“Ariana Butera – video caught her licking other peoples’ donuts while saying she hates America; Republican Congressman used this video and said it was a double standard that liberals were not upset with her like they are with Trump who criticized Mexicans; cursed out a person on Twitter after that person used an offensive word towards her brother.”
Hey, White House, it’s totally fair to ban Ariana for that whole doughnut-licking thing, but if you’re going to punish her for standing up for her brother, how about you do something about the very real cyber-bullying that’s happening every day? Just a thought!
Grande may have licked a few doughnuts in her humble beginnings as a pop star, but since then, she’s mostly managed to avoid controversy. Her new album Dangerous Women was hailed by Billboard as one of the best albums of 2016.
