Lady Gaga Premieres New Single ‘Perfect Illusion’

Lady Gaga has been teasing her new single Perfect Illusion for what feels like a millennium. She hasn’t released an album in three years (she’s been busy filming American Horror Story and taking a little break from music). While we respect Mother Monster’s foray into the acting world, we need new music — and today is finally that day.

Lady Gaga has premiered her single “Perfect Illusion.” The song premiered on iHeartRadio and was produced by Mark Ronson, Kevin Parker (Tame Impala) and BloodPop, as well as Ms. Germanotta herself.

Gaga says “Perfect Illusion” is about “modern ecstasy” — all the highs and lows of a relationship gone wrong. That’s something all of us can totally relate to.

“The song is about modern ecstasy . . . .We found our sweet, simple, ragey way of saying it,” she explained during the IHeartRadio Music Summit. “I get this sick adrenaline rush every time I hear it.”

Just like we speculated when Gaga hopped back into the studio with RedOne, “Perfect Illusion” feels like a throwback to Gaga in her “Just Dance” days. It’s dancey, it’s fun and her vocals — as always — totally slay. After the slightly experimental ArtPOP, which was a bit hard to digest for some fans, this is a totally welcome sound. We can totally picture this as a party anthem.
