It seems like romance blooms quickly in Hollywood. In August we were shocked by the sudden engagement of Avril Lavigne to Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, and on Sunday we learned that lovebirds Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds took that not-so-long walk down the aisle.
When news of Lively and Reynolds’ secret wedding hit the Internet, there was a collective murmuring of “WTF?” Not because these two aren’t adorable — because they totally are — but because the wedding seemed to come out of nowhere. Did we even know that they were engaged? (No. We didn’t.)
Lively and Reynolds are hardly the first couple to shock their fans by getting hitched without giving notice. Sometimes the weddings are a surprise for the bride and groom themselves, like when Britney Spears infamously wed her childhood friend Jason Alexander in Las Vegas (the marriage lasted all of 55 hours), and sometimes to the guests are the ones in shock, such as Julia Roberts‘ secret Independence Day party-turned-wedding to husband Daniel Moder.
