Elizabeth Banks announced on Twitter yesterday that she and her husband, Max Handelman, had welcomed a son, Felix, via gestational surrogate. On her website, she explained more about the monumental event: “I have been very fortunate in life both professionally and personally… The one true hurdle I’ve faced in life is that I have a broken belly. After years of trying to get pregnant, exploring the range of fertility treatments, all unsuccessful, our journey led us go gestational surrogacy: we made a ‘baby cake’ and bake it in another woman’s ‘oven.'” She described the whole experience as being a miracle on two fronts: the first in meeting their surrogate, and the second was the arrival of their son, whose name is Latin for “happy” and “lucky.” At least Jack Donaghy can’t make this one Republican!
