Famed Songwriter Jerry Leiber Dies at 78

Jerry Leiber, the prolific songwriter behind hits like “Jailhouse Rock” and “Chapel Love,” has passed away. He was 78 years old.

Leiber, regarded by many music historians as one of rock & roll’s most important lyricists, reportedly died following cardiopulmonary failure.

Along with his songwriting partner Mike Stoller, Leiber was responsible for many of early popular music’s most famous songs, including “Stand by Me,” “Hound Dog,” “There Goes My Baby” and “Love Potion No. 9” — and the duo’s music was featured on an episode of American Idol‘s most recent season, in May.
