Sarah Jessica Parker Explains How She Does It On ‘Nightline’

There are a great many parallels between Sarah Jessica Parker‘s real life and the life of the character she plays in her new movie, I Don’t Know How She Does It. Both Parker and Kate Redding have to balance their jobs, their families, and their husbands while being careful one element does not overpower the other two, thereby throwing their entire lives out of whack. This is most certainly something Parker has been doing for years, but it seems like her decision to play Kate in feature film adaptation of Allison Pearson’s book has unleashed a slew of curiosity about how she — the 4-time Golden Globe winning actress, mother of three, and wife of fourteen years — is still able to actually do “it.”

And so in an attempt to shed some light on how she finds time to be a mother and wife and a working actress and an entrepreneur, Sarah Jessica Parker sat down with fellow person who “does it,” Katie Couric, and revealed she still doesn’t mind talking to fans about about Sex and the City, what her young twin daughters are like, and that she broke down and leased a minivan. Parker even hinted as to why she accepted the lead role in the Douglas McGrath-directed movie, saying “I mean, it’s just so interesting, the topic of being a mother, a parent, working in or out of the home, how everybody does it. But it’s genuinely inspiring and very inspiring to see how a majority of women have to do it. And I think about that a lot.” Then she shared a little known secret, which was that there have been many times she’s wished she could linger at her son’s school and talk with the other moms instead of running off to a movie set. But if there’s one thing we can take away from this interview, it’s that not only does SJP actually do “it,” she seems to like doing “it,” too.
