We’ve all heard stories of Hollywood’s so-called “casting couch” — a method of moving up by moving to the bedroom — but it’s always surprising when an A-list star steps out and admits that they were victims of the shameful practice. And 2012 seems to be the year that celebrities are coming forward about their experiences trying to fend off amorous professionals in order to break into the industry. In the November issue of Elle magazine, Susan Sarandon is the latest to reveal that she was assaulted while trying to gain a Hollywood profile.
“I just went into a room, and a guy practically threw me on the desk,” the 66-year-old Cloud Atlas star says. “It was my early days in New York, and it was really disgusting. It wasn’t like I gave it a second thought, it was so badly done.” She also adds that the casting “was not successful — for either of us.”
Sarandon is just one of the few women who has had to deal with this type of inappropriate behavior during her career. According to Black Book, earlier this year Goldie Hawn told Oprah Winfrey that she had been approached by a TV writer, who reportedly told her she would never get anywhere if she didn’t use sex to help her. Tippi Hedren has also opened up about Alfred Hitchcock allegedly sexually harassing her.
