Red Dragon
The Players: Anthony Hopkins, Edward Norton, Ralph Fiennes, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Harvey Keitel, Emily Watson; directed by Brett Ratner (Rush Hour 2)
The Skinny: This is another version of the 1981 Thomas Harris novel that was the first in the Hannibal Lecter trilogy (the first film was 1986’s Manhunter). FBI agent Will Graham (Norton), once almost killed in a run-in with now imprisoned crackpot Hannibal Lecter (Hopkins), seeks Lecter’s help in tracking another serial killer on the loose.
The Bottom Line: Rumor had it Jude Law was to play this younger version of Lecter–now that would have been worth seeing. As it is, this plot, as well as Anthony Hopkins, is getting kinda old, but this Oscar-caliber ensemble will surely make up for that. (Which begs the question…how did Ratner, who counts The Family Man and Money Talks among his credits, land this gig?)
Opens: Oct. 4
