DO IT TODAY: ‘The Fashion Show’ Premiere

The Fashion Show Premiere
(Thursday, May, 7, 2009)

We don’t fault Bravo for cloning their former love child, Project Runway. It was an excellent show, and if you’re on Team Bravo, then you’re of the belief that it was Bravo that added the unprecedented excellence. Yep, we’re on Team Bravo (though awesome, Runway wasn’t just Heidi and Tim), and that’s why we wouldn’t miss the premiere of The Fashion Show for any hot-tranny-mess thing in the world. Albeit a little C-grade, the newbie hosts are sweet: Isaac Mizrahi, whose recent not-high-end line at Target was cut off and Kelly Rowland, whose stint with Beyonce‘s Destiny’s Child has been cut off for a long time. They both serve as judges — which is weird because Isaac is also a mentor, a la Tim Gunn (seems a bit of a conflict) — alongside Fern Mallis, the creator of New York Fashion Week. Fifteen contestants will compete — not just for nicknames like The New Christian or The New Stella (you know who you are) — but for a $125,000 grand prize. Who else noticed the extra 25K this bitch-smart knock-off Runway has thrown in? Somebody wants attention …
