FRESH FACE: Carice van Houten

Her Current Gig: Nina von Stauffenberg in Tom Cruise’s new historical thriller Valkyrie. She plays the loving wife to would-be Hitler assassin Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (Cruise). While he plots to end the reign of the Reich, she stands by him in unspoken understanding.

You Know This Face Because … she’s graced the pages of Vanity Fair, been named Woman of the Year by New York magazine and played a small role in Ridley Scott’s Body of Lies. But while she’s just making her mark in the U.S., she’s already a household name in her native Netherlands with three Golden Calf awards for her work in Suzy Q, Undercover Kitty and Black Book.

Why So Fresh? She’s got an impressive lineup of films on the way, including sci-fi thriller Repossession Mambo with Jude Law and Forrest Whitaker, ghost story From Time to Time, biopic Vivaldi with Joseph Fiennes and the Dutch film Smoke and Ochre.

In Her Own Words … “I loved that in the midst of this exciting story of conspiracy, you also see Claus and Nina’s family life. Nina might not have a lot of words in this story, but she brings a lot of feelings. I think she had to find her own strength to show this unconditional love and give her husband the freedom to do this incredible thing without fear. Nina understood what they were doing was not only about trying to save their family but also the country and the world.”
