Veteran actor Harrison Ford has been much honored throughout his career, but it’s only in recent years that he’s received recognition for a lifetime spent entertaining the public. Last year, the American Film Institute presented the star with its Life Achievement Award. In January, Ford will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award, which honors outstanding contribution to the entertainment field, at the 59th Annual Golden Globe Awards.
And it’s no doubt well deserved. Ford has starred in seven of the 20 highest grossing pictures in film history, including Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Patriot Games.
Ford has been previously honored with the People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Actor in a Motion Picture, All-Time Favorite Motion Picture Performer and Favorite Motion Picture Actor. He received an MTV Movie Award for Best On-Screen Duo for The Fugitive, which he shared with Tommy Lee Jones. He also received NATO Box Office Star of the Century Award, the first award presented by the National Association of Theater Owners.
Previous Cecil B. DeMille recipients include Barbra Streisand, Jack Nicholson, Shirley MacLaine, Dustin Hoffman, Sean Connery, Sophia Loren and Robert Redford.
Haley Giraldo will be this year’s Miss Golden Globe. Giraldo is the daughter of producer/songwriter Neil Giraldo and rocker Pat Benetar.
Giraldo will assist during the ceremony, handing out trophies to the winners. She follows a 29-year line of honorees, each a daughter or son of a well-known entertainer.
The 59th annual Golden Globe Awards, organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, will be telecast live on NBC on Jan. 20 from the Beverly Hills Hotel.
