“The Exorcist” Premiere

WESTWOOD, Calif., Sept. 21, 2000 — Twenty-seven years ago, it scared the living daylights out of us. The turning head. The green puke (actually pea soup). The eerie music.

Now, while other horror films shock and spoof, the classic “Exorcist” returns this friday (up against teen horrorfest “Urban Legends: Final Cut”) with 11 minutes of added scenes that writer William Peter Blatty bugged director William Friedkin to restore ever since the original was released in 1973. Last year Friedkin took a look at the deleted scenes and consented, also fixing the sound and updating the score.

Attending the premiere were cast members Linda Blair and Ellen Burstyn, as well as Burstyn’s co-stars on the new series “That’s Life,” Paul Sorvino and Heather Paige Kent.
