UNIVERSAL CITY, Apr. 29, 2001 — With camels, gold-encrusted dancers and “ancient” statues, The Mummy Returns made its splashy Hollywood debut at the Universal Amphitheater on Sunday afternoon.
Stars Brendan Fraser, Arnold Vosloo, Patricia Velasquez, Oded Fehr, Freddie Boath and wrestling star The Rock united for the red carpet, littered with international press (and WWF fans).
The film is a sequel to 1999’s surprise hit The Mummy, an Indiana Jones-type adventure that has adventurers Rick (Fraser) and Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) working to stop the mummy Imhotep (Vosloo) as he walks the earth again. The Rock, in his first acting role, plays the Scorpion King.
The Mummy Returns opens May 4.
