The Star Style Files

Trend-setting stars are always on the trail of the hottest new thing, and Hollywood.com keeps in step with them all the way. Here’s the latest from the intersection of Style and Celebrity…

Hella haute

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale

No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani is known for accentuating her perfectly made-up face and peroxide blonde hair with her distinctive cutting-edge fashion sense, which mixes eclectic vintage items with hip designer items. But as she readies for her September nuptials to Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale, Gwen is taking a more traditional haute couture approach to her wedding gown–sort of.

While on tour with her band in Europe, Stefani hooked up with John Galliano of Christian Dior, and the two quickly began concocting Gwen’s ultimate bridal ensemble. “He told me to send him anything I could, like pictures and inspiration, so I sent him a big package of things I collected on tour,” the singer told Reuters. “And then he sent me a drawing of this dress and when I saw it, I was like, I wouldn’t change anything on it.”

Of course, Galliano isn’t exactly known for tame creations: his latest runway show during Paris’ Fashion Week featuring his autumn/winter collection featured outlandish costumes that paired deconstructed military coats with rippling silk trains and bulging denim jackets with billowing taffeta skirts, as well as shredded gowns and body armor.

Step into the “Parlour”

On June 21 a slew of sexy starlets, behind-the-scenes talent and execs assembled to “Shape Up for Summer” at the Parlour…of Beauty, West Hollywood’s hippest new pampering pad on trendy 3rd Street.

Spa owners Corey Powell and Tim Jahke invited a select few femmes from within the Industry to spend the longest day of the year being made even more glamorous with blow-outs, manicures, mini-facials, makeovers from Stila cosmetics, Kerastase Deep Conditioning treatments and summer-kiss highlights.

Fashion footwear “It” girl Charlotte Ronson and her pal, swimwear designer (and, yes, Jerry Seinfeld ex) Shoshanna Lonstein, were also on hand to show off their hottest summer selections to the ladies lapping up the afternoon of luxury, who included Monet Mazur, Paris Hilton, onetime Baywatch Hawaii babe Krista Allen, Barret Swatek (7th Heaven‘s Cheryl) and screendom’s newest scream queen, Halloween: Resurrection‘s Bianca Kajlich.

“I’m not so good at this,” the laid-back Ronson said about making media-friendly soundbytes, but she was getting more used to the spotlight now that the stars have set their sights on her funky flip-flops, daisy espadrilles and pink-and-mint-green striped flats. “Celebrities will see my stuff in a magazine and then ask to find me,” she said, noting that Jennifer Lopez, Janet Jackson, Lil’ Kim and Gwen Stefani are fans.

Lonstein, whose cherry-print bikini has been a big hit with Jennifer Love Hewitt, Britney Spears and Tori Spelling, explained her personal motivation for creating her two-piece separates: “100 percent lack of stuff for me to buy! I was a hard fit my whole life, so I get it.”

Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon

Tarot card readings were available for those celebs wanting more than a makeover, like Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon, who demurred about the specifics but said her reading was all positive. “It’s good, just surrender to what life puts in front of me and go with it,” she said. Showing off her willingness to do just that, she added, “I’m totally surrendering! I’ve got a margarita, I’ve got a new bathing suit!”

My-Tee fine

At The Lounge, one of West Hollywood’s hottest live music clubs, a handful of style scenesters gathered for…a T-shirt fashion show? Then again, Chrissy Azzaro’s My-Tee designs aren’t your mother’s tees–they’re sexy, lightweight, brightly colored and belly baring. Actresses such as Jennifer Blanc (Dark Angel), Dana Daurey (Providence) and Nina Kaczorowski (Austin Powers in Goldmember) mixed and mingled at the show, but no one was more noticeable than Beverly Hills 90210‘s former bitch-goddess Tiffani Thiessen, whose dangerous curves have filled out many a My-Tee creation.

“I’ve known Chrissy for a year and a half, and I’ve been wearing her stuff for as long as I’ve known her,” she said. “I started wearing her tank tops, and I just had to meet her. I found out that she’s from around here, and I just became good friends with her…She’s absolutely adorable.”

Thiessen was carrying a handbag emblazoned with a screened photo print of her and fiancé Richard Ruccolo canoodling, and while she balked at discussing their impending nuptials she did say how excited she is about her new fall series Fastlane, which will air Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on Fox. “McG [Charlie’s Angels] is the director, and it’s really cool, very hip, fast-paced–really sexy and really fun…I’m the boss of two guys [Peter Facinelli and Bill Bellamy].”

No doubt they’re OK with that, especially if she’s wearing a My-Tee.

Harry Winston pairs ’em up

Winston’s “Today Show” his ‘n her wedding rings

You don’t have to be famous to wear Harry Winston’s dazzling diamonds, but it helps at least to be on TV. The couple who recently agreed to tie the knot live on NBC’s Today Show, Cynthia and Marcus (no last names–even a couple tying the knot on TV deserves some privacy) received a spectacular pair of wedding bands from the jeweler to the stars after over 206,000 viewers chose the symbolic rings for them: a brilliant ruby-and-diamond band set in 18k gold for her, an elegant 18k gold beaded band for him.

“Gemstone wedding rings are quickly becoming a major trend,” said a Winston spokesperson, adding that the New York and Beverly Hills stores have been flooded with calls about the rings, which start at about $6,000. “The look is incredibly chic.” The Today Show rings are on display in Harry Winston’s New York salon until Cynthia and Marcus’ TV nuptials in August.

If the shoe Pfits

Andrea Pfister–whose high-style heels have been worn by the likes of Julia Roberts, Madonna, Elizabeth Taylor, Barbra Streisand, Catherine Deneuve, Diana Ross, Candice Bergen and Susan Sarandon–has become the latest famed footwear designer to open a boutique on the well-trod Rodeo Drive.

Pfister’s designer heel

Pfister himself was on hand for an exclusive preview of the luxe boutique–decorated in French limestone with a Swarovski crystal chandelier–earlier this month, helping old friends (like Brenda Vaccaro) find the perfect fit for their feet, as well as showing off his first-ever handbag collection.

Thrilled to have at last arrived on Rodeo, Pfister said he was getting the sense that many of the street’s shoppers were equally excited to have him there. While prepping for his grand opening, he said he was inundated with ladies knocking desperately on the door, hoping to make a purchase before the shop even opened for business.

Hot off the fashion wire…

  • Saks Fifth Avenue may be known for catering to an upscale clientele, but now the department store’s going Depression-era. Fashion Wire Daily reports that the Saks New York and Beverly Hills stores will showcase the early-1930s costumes from Tom Hanks‘ movie Road to Perdition in their windows. It may be summertime, but since the movie is set in winter, the display will mostly feature men’s suits and coats.

  • Despite potential outcry, CBS intends to air the next Victoria’s Secret lingerie special during November sweeps. Last November, the one-hour “Christmas Dreams and Fantasies” fashion show drew about 12.4 million viewers to ABC, as well as a number of complaints to the FCC about the scantily clad models walking the catwalk and views of body parts that may or may not have been so secret. CBS head Les Moonves told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour on Monday, “This isn’t your grandmother’s CBS.” Granny and Victoria’s Secret–thanks for that image, Les.

  • Plenty of famous faces were caught up in the frenzied hoopla of Paris’ Fashion Week this month. Elizabeth Hurley, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, Rupert Everett and George Michael checked out the Gianni Versace show; Jean-Paul Gaultier‘s collection lured Combs, Sting and wife Trudie Styler, Catherine Deneuve and designers Sonia Rykiel and Donna Karan; Gwyneth Paltrow was front and center next to P.Diddy at Valentino, while Valentino himself (last name Garavaldi, if Alex Trebek ever asks) joined Ivana Trump and Danielle Steele (and her four daughters) at the Oscar de la Renta showing; and perky Paris Hilton provided socialite wattage at Emmanuel Ungaro. But even Mr. Diddy was outdone by actor Dennis Hopper, who was at practically every show as he psyched himself up for his upcoming stint as the celebrity editor of French Vogue.
