Finally, American Idol leaves a Thursday-night slot open for another popular show. Sheesh!

Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, a ratings hit in its own right, has been absent from Fox ever since Idol hijacked three whole nights several weeks ago.

But now it’s down to 12 contestants and thus two nights a week (Tuesday and Wednesday), which allows the return of 5th Grader, et al.

In tonight’s episode… Well, yeah, it’s the exact same premise as pre-Idol hiatus, a premise that is more or less contained within the title.
