Wednesday: ‘BET Hip Hop Awards’

BET Hip Hop Awards – BET

Just when things start looking up for the state of hip hop, yet another award show mishap has to take place. One of the main attractions at this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards, Atlanta’s rapid fire rap artist T.I., was arrested in a parking lot, allegedly in the process of picking up a stock of machine guns.

But inside the show, taped last week from Atlanta’s Civic Center, harmony and support were the key themes, with many of the night’s winner’s paying respect to their peer artists. In fact, when it came time for Kanye West to pick up his trophy, the rapper/producer with an ego of gold unpredictably said it instead belonged to another group, The Underground Kings, and not him this year. This occurrence stands in contrast to the many other hissy fits West has delivered at various past ceremonies.

Also appearing on tonight’s broadcast of the event will be Common, Outkast, Busta Rhymes, and KRS-One. Comedian Kat Williams presides as host.

BET Hip Hop Awards airs tonight at 8/7c on BET.
