Ah, love in Hollywood. Celebrity marriages may not always last, but famous couples try to make Valentine’s Day special just like the rest of us. And Hollywood.com has the scoop on the hearts-and-flowers fun that the stars have planned for the romantic day.
The most famous celebrity couple of all, TomKat, will make the annual romance holiday as big as the blockbusters in which they star. “I like making a big deal out of a lot of things,” said Katie Holmes of her plans with hubby Tom Cruise. “So, yes, I like to have a whole day. I like surprises and the whole family. It’s an event. It’s fun and I like sending Valentines.”
Perhaps Holmes is overcompensating for some past heartaches. Valentine’s Day was not always special for her. “I went to an all girls high school and every Valentine’s Day they would announce who got flowers waiting in the office. So I got very used to the importance of giving other women Valentines and receiving because my name was never called, never. I didn’t have any money to send them to myself. Hopefully they’ve stopped that procedure.” [PAGEBREAK]
The Parkers, Tony and Eva Longoria, are trying to keep Valentine’s Day intimate. “We actually have a vow to not give each other presents on Valentine’s day,” said the newlywed Longoria Parker. “We’re going to do ‘gestures’, to do something, like a romantic dinner. He said, ‘Don’t plan anything’ because he has something planned, but I don’t have anything planned yet.”[PAGEBREAK]
Hollywood’s comedians are keeping Valentine’s Day light. Will Ferrell‘s idea would be dangerous for wife Viceca, but we know he’s just joking…right? “I dress as Cupid and chase my wife around the house with a real competition level bow and arrow,” said Ferrell. “I literally try to shoot her. It is [romantic] for me. She hates it. She usually cowers in a broom closet. I just try and wing her, the upper part of the thigh or maybe the calf.” [PAGEBREAK]
No Country for Old Men star Josh Brolin has low expectations to satisfy. His wife, Diane Lane, only wants the simple things. “Dinner with my husband would be nice,” she said. That is, it can be simple as long as he delivers. “[It’s] not a big deal but if it were ignored it’d be a big deal. You know what I mean?”[PAGEBREAK]
By the time Valentine’s Day comes around, Matthew Fox may be Lost after a string of other gift-giving holidays with wife Margherita. “You’ve got Christmas and my wife’s birthday was just yesterday and now I’ve got Valentine’s Day,” said Fox. “Every year I get to this place and it’s like three major gifts that I’ve got to come up with. She’s amazing. She’s fun to get things for. I think it’ll mainly be just like a nice dinner. We do that often.”[PAGEBREAK]
After their recent harrowing ordeal with their twin babies, Dennis Quaid and his wife Kimberly will have a lot to celebrate. However, because of his travel schedule, she’ll get a double Valentine’s Day. “I am actually going to be on a plane, on my way to Berlin, on Valentine’s Day,” said Quaid. “I will be working on G.I. Joe and then I get right on a plane, and go right to Berlin that day. So we are going to celebrate before and after.”[PAGEBREAK]
Notes from the Underbelly‘s Jennifer Westfeldt has no plans, and does not need anything extravagant from husband, Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm. “We always kind of do a romantic dinner somewhere,” she said. “I don’t know what we’re going to do this year. We don’t care as long as we’re together. We could curl up, rent a movie and dig in.” [PAGEBREAK]
Slacker icon Jack Black reluctantly buys into the whole festivity for wife Tanya. “Yeah, only because I have to,” said Black. “It’s a pretty dumb thing. You should always be showing people that you love them.”[PAGEBREAK]
Ryan Reynolds admits he gets out of Valentine’s Day because it’s not so big in Canada, but he has a fantasy Valentine he would send. “If I could send a valentine to anyone, I think probably Faye Dunaway circa Little Big Man,” said Reynolds. “I’d probably send her a Valentine, maybe a singing telegram.” [PAGEBREAK]
Amy Poehler has a fancy date coming up, as her husband Will Arnett is taking her to a show. Or is he? “I’m going to see a Broadway show… with my girlfriend, not my wife,” said Arnett. “She hates musicals. We’re going to see Young Frankenstein. Science fiction makes me warm.”[PAGEBREAK]
American Pie‘s Jason Biggs has an idea for his girlfriend that is as outrageous as many of his Pie stunts. “This year, maybe I’ll break up with her,” pondered Biggs. “That could be fun, and get back together with her hours later so it’s really exciting for her. What I do is I crush her and then get back together with her so that it’s like ‘Awww, the best feeling ever on Valentine’s Day.’ I might actually break up with her in the morning or the night before on the 13th, and then get back together. Maybe I’ll do that.”[PAGEBREAK]
Some big Hollywood hunks can get away with blowing it off. Colin Farrell can just use that Irish brogue, all innocent like. “Oh, I didn’t even know it was coming up,” he claimed.[PAGEBREAK]
Donald Trump has so much money, he can fire St. Valentine. “It’s never been the biggest day in my life,” The Donald said – let’s hope his wife Melania agrees. [PAGEBREAK]
Sam Malone always had a way with the ladies on Cheers, but in real life, married man Ted Danson need not think about valentines, even in a house full of daughters. “I don’t know why but Valentine’s Day in our house was never that huge of a deal,” said Danson, who’s hitched to Mary Steenburgen. “We are pretty loving and acknowledging year round so maybe that is why. We have birthdays right around it that probably take precedence. But thanks for the heads up.”[PAGEBREAK]
Some starlets are letting their men off the hook too. Freddie Prinze Jr. has an out, because his wife, Sarah Michelle Gellar, isn’t into Valentine’s Day. “It’s not special if you’re told to do it on that day,” she said. “How special can it be?” [PAGEBREAK]
Hilary Swank may have just starred in the romantic tear jerker P.S. I Love You, but that doesn’t mean she’s buying into the Valentine’s Day hype for her beau and agent John Campisi. “You know, I think Valentine’s Day is kind of a Hallmark holiday,” she said. “I think every day should be Valentine’s Day and I think every day you should show the person you love how much you love them.” [PAGEBREAK]
One babe that most men would dream of making their Valentine, Jessica Alba, doesn’t need such elaborate gestures. “I haven’t even thought about Valentine’s Day,” said Alba, who is expecting her first child with beau Cash Warren. “I’m getting over Christmas. Every day is kind of Valentine’s Day when you’re in love with somebody.”[PAGEBREAK]
Paris Hilton has no Valentine of her own but that won’t stop her from throwing a party. “I’m single so I’ll be in Las Vegas. I’m having my birthday at LAX in Vegas on the 15th so I’ll be there all that week for Magic, for my clothing line and my shoe line. I just love being single so I don’t know. I’d like to stay single for awhile. It’s fun although it’s very hard during Valentine’s Day.”[PAGEBREAK]
KISS frontman Gene Simmons has former Playmate Shannon Tweed for a significant other, but that’s no guarantee that she’ll be his Valentine every year. “Not with the same one, if you know what I mean,” Simmons admitted. “It’s the tendency of the male of the species, you know.”[PAGEBREAK]
Dexter‘s love interest Julie Benz keeps it in perspective, calling it “another excuse to get drunk, right?”
