Winter Movie Guide 2003: “Shanghai Knights”

Shanghai Knights

The Players: Jackie Chan, Owen Wilson, Donnie Yen, Fann Wong; directed by David Dobkin (Clay Pigeons)

The Skinny: The Victorian-era sequel to Shanghai Noon has Chon (Chan) and Roy (Wilson) headed to London to avenge Chon’s death at the hands of a Chinese rebel. Meanwhile Chon’s sister uncovers a worldwide conspiracy to murder the royal family but almost no one will believe her. While Chon’s attempting revenge he must still keep the romance-minded Roy away from his sister.

The Bottom Line: Jackie Chan movies are an almost sure thing at the box office, so no matter how silly the plot is, people will turn out to see it. Wilson adds comic credibility and the two made a good team in the first movie.
