‘Twas the week of the Oscar nominations, and…almost all of the rankings of Hollywood.com’s search results stayed the same. That’s because the films nominated were already feverishly searched prior to the announcements. Oddly, however, not a single actor or actress nominated was to be found in the top 25. (Note: Searches were tallied shortly after nominations were announced, so such actors/actresses could figure more prominently in next week’s rankings.)
Female domination continued to rear its pretty head, as Pamela Anderson, Jessica Simpson, Katie Holmes and Angelina Jolie respectively comprised the top four spots–again. Brad Pitt came in at No. 5, right behind pregnant Jolie, further solidifying their union.
Oddly, Brokeback Mountain (No. 6) took a hit in its searches. Maybe the film’s surprising SAG Awards loss to Crash for Outstanding Performance by a Cast (the SAG equivalent of Best Picture) had something to do with its drop. At No. 9, the term, “Oscars,” saw one of the biggest jumps in recent history, a surefire sign that Oscar-mania has indeed officially begun.
The weird Friends (No. 12) saga continued–with NBC bosses disputing equally newsworthy reports that the six cast members had agreed to return for new episodes–and eyes and ears remain glued as new reports unfold. Of course, there was nothing weird about Underworld: Evolution‘s continuing rise (No. 13; the weeks biggest mover): the Kate Beckinsale-in-leather flick was beat out at the box office by Big Momma’s House 2 and Nanny McPhee, but remains quite an attention-getter.
The final five spots saw some minor changes, two of which were new entrants. At No. 21, End of the Spear suffered the week’s biggest drop in searches. On the other hand, Pierce Brosnan‘s The Matador and the animated Hoodwinked both rose into the two final spots in the top 25, the first such placement for each.
