And to think I considered a movie based on the board game Candy Land to be a foolhardy endeavor. More wrong I could not have been. Not only is the project moving forward under the auspices of a major studio — Sony — it has also proved intriguing enough to land the services of America’s most inexplicably popular actor.
Variety reports that Adam Sandler is in final talks to star in and co-write (along with SNL alum Robert Smigel) a live-action adaptation of the classic Hasbro game, which had been in development at Universal before the studio abandoned the project in a momentary fit of financial sanity. Sandler’s involvement is a major coup for the once-troubled project, as he is known to be an actor of highly discriminating tastes. Kevin Lima (Enchanted) is attached to direct.
