New Line has signed Adam Shankman to direct a new version of The Nutcracker, Deadline.com reports. The Bedtime Stories helmer, who is currently at work putting the finishing touches on the Tom Cruise rock opera Rock of Ages, will reportedly make it his next project. New Line is said to be aiming for an elaborate fantasy in the vein of Alice in Wonderland, the CG-stuffed Tim Burton flick that grossed over a billion dollars worldwide. The most recent version of Tchaikovsky’s classic fairytale to grace theaters, Andrey Konchalovskiy’s The Nutcracker in 3D, won high marks for its ability to frighten and disturb moviegoers of all ages. Having seen Bedtime Stories, we know Shankman can top it.
New Line is aiming for a late 2013 release for The Nutcracker.
